Effects of lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet <i>vs.</i> standard-weight-loss diet on obese and overweight adults with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a randomised clinical trial

The aim of the study was to compare effects a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet (LOV-D) vs. standard weight-loss (SWL-D) on obese/overweight adults with NAFLD. Present randomised clinical trial recruited 75 overweight/obese NAFLD, who were randomly assigned into LOV-D and SWL-D groups for 3 months. designed based eliminating meat, poultry, fish; while including dairy products eggs. planned according food pyramid, which free in all sources food. Adherence significantly outperformed reducing levels alanine aminotransferase (ALT), body weight, waist circumference, BMI, fasting blood sugar, insulin, homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triacylglycerol (TG), cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), systolic pressure (SBP). Furthermore, ultrasonography revealed higher alleviation NAFLD grade among LOV-D, compared SWL-D. This suggests that adherence months has beneficial improvement, anthropometric measures, glycaemic-related markers, lipid profiles.
